With this episode on September 26, 1937, The Shadow premiered on the Mutual radio network. It featured Orson Welles as Lamont Cranston (aka The Shadow) and Agnes Moorehead as his "friend and companion, the lovely Margot Lane". Welles starred in the series for a year, departing in September 1938. The classic line "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" was actually spoken by Frank Readick, who had previously portrayed the title character.
